sadly it is very common for people to blindly (to that of ignorance) fallow. Look at the hippies, some had very valid philosophical reasons for living and being the way the are/were. Others just fallowed, just like the copius amounts of youth who feel they "belong" to the mold of hip hop, or gangsterism or any other sub-culture. The "new age" movement is no different. Accept that the promoting of open mindedness (which isnt necessarily bad, until one forgets to utilize faculties of the mind.) leaves people vulnerable to the influence of others, as you had said in other words.

There is nothing inherently wrong with these ideas. As long as they are taken at face value and one accepts that they actually dont know. People have troubles accepting that they dont know leading to the superstitious beliefs so that they can continue to function.

What great hypocrisy and vanity some people maintain, usually innocently enough because they are actually not accepting. For example many people have to over come the notion that they arent special, and maybe they are in the sense that we (and all things that exist) are special, but the inferiority/ superiority dynamic is haunting, so they latch onto something like that they are the next step of evolution. There isnt really anything wrong with the optimism that we are evolving and the fantasy that hopefully we will create a better place to live, it is the mis-use of the fantasy that creates the problems.
