Very astute writing. I agree with much of what you say. If there is one fault I find in your thought process, it is that in your reliance on "words" you fall victim to interpreting what others have "said" and might not mean. For example, the whole "prosperity" idea that it is not spiritual to want what ever it is you want. On the surface, this would appear to be the case. But is it. Years ago, I attended, one of the most fundamentalist Christian churches in America. The pastor, John Macarthur, was just a bit to the right of Bob Jones. Anyway, even to this day, I can remember his words. And this coming from the man that has written book after book condemning any sect even slightly off the straight and narrow path. He thinks Billy Graham is a flaming liberal. He said, if you are "in the spirit", then you can basically do what ever it is you want to do. (Because you are at that time doing the will of God) IF you are "in the spirit". Anything goes, since your will and God's will are in sync. I think if you sat down and talked to many of these manifesting mavens, they might bring this point up. That you must first be allowing Spirit to rule, then go manifest. So you may want to cut them some slack in this one area. But like you, I don't buy into all the dogmatic manifesting theology that anyone can do it. I used to love the line John Macarthur used in his book, The Charismatics. (gty.org) If these faith healers could really heal, how come they aren't clearing out cancer wards on Sunday afternoons. Or if Pat Robertson knows that some lady in Kansas City is being healed of cancer, why can't God tell her instead that Betty Adams of 116 Adams Street in the red dress is being healed. What, God has a blocked GPS or limited knowledge, lol. Or if you are walking down the street and a car swerves onto the sidewalk and kills you then you caused it. And like you said, if Deepak can really manifest anything, then why fly by jet. Just teleport himself to seminars. One last thought. I have studied many of the "top" new thought authors- going back to Jane Roberts. Most do have one thing in common. They may preach that you just have to think it. But they all produce an awful lot of product and I would consider the majority- if not all of them to be major workaholics. So they are living the "God helps those that help themselves" and work 100 hour weeks too. I mean Jerry and Esther Hicks were at the top of the Amway food chain and you don't get that high sitting on your rear thinking happy thoughts.

I look forward to reading more of your writings. You add a much needed balance to the mix. Thanks for the critiques.
